Washington County Parks welcome everyone for Saturday evening campfire programs May 27-Sept. 2

Every Saturday evening at 7:15 p.m., join area naturalists at outdoor park amphitheaters for a variety of engaging nature programs. Each program runs 45 minutes and will present live creatures, facts, and/or exhibits for hands-on, family learning. Program topics include animal adaptations, bats, bird banding, bugs, dragonflies, frogs, hawks, owls, snakes, raptors, wolves, and more.
All campfire programs are free to campers and visitors with a vehicle permit ($7/day or $30/annual). Programs are at the outdoor amphitheater within the park and include a bonfire (when conditions allow). Bench seating and grassy areas are available; however, visitors are more than welcome to bring camp chairs and blankets for comfort. The schedule is:

  • May 27: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Bruce the Bug Guy presents “Bugs;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Dodge Nature Center presents “Talkin' Turkeys.”
  • June 3: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Leave No Trace presenting “Something's Fishy!” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Remarkable Reptiles presents “Reptiles.”
  • June 10: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Warner Nature Center presents “Red-Tailed Hawk;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Carpenter Nature Center presents “Animals on the St. Croix.”
  • June 17: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Wildlife Science Center presents “Wolves;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Dodge Nature Center presents “Prairie Predators & Their Prey.”
  • June 24: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Washington Conservation District presents “Pond Life” (bring shoes to get wet!); St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Wildlife Science Center presents “Wolves.”
  • July 1: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Como Zoo presents “A Journey Through Africa;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Remarkable Reptiles      presents “Reptiles.”
  • July 8: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Wildlife Nature Center presents “Raptors;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Leave No Trace presents “Outdoor Games.”
  • July 15: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Warner Nature Center presents “Barred Owl;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Washington Conservation District presents “Prairie Life.”
  • July 22: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Warner Nature Center presents “Eastern Screech Owl;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Dodge Nature Center presents “Minnesota's Other Wildlife: Cryptozoology.”
  • July 29: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Bruce the Bug Guy presents “Bugs;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Pollinate Minnesota presents “Bees.”
  • Aug. 5: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Warner Nature Center presents “ Red-Tailed Hawk;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Leave No Trace presents “Fire!”
  • Aug 12: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Warner Nature Center presents “Barred Owl;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Carpenter Nature Center presents “Raptors.”
  • Aug. 19: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Carpenter Nature Center presents “Raptors;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Dodge Nature Center presents “What's the Deal with the Solar Eclipse?”
  • Aug. 26, 7 p.m., Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Pollinate Minnesota presents “Bees;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Bruce the Bug Guy presents “Bugs.”
  • Sept. 2: Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Remarkable Reptiles presents “Reptiles;” St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Como Zoo presents “A Journey Through Africa.”
  • Oct. 10, MEA Weekend 6 p.m. at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve Nordic Center, Dwight Wilcox, storyteller with “Not So Scary Stories. Free s'mores and cocoa.
  • Oct. 28, 6 p.m. at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve Nordic Center, Dwight Wilcox, storyteller, “Scary Stories.” Free s'mores and cocoa.
