Guided fitness hikes start off 2017, continue through year
Gather friends to explore the Washington County Parks trail system with guided fitness hikes in 2017. The one-hour hikes involve a warm-up and fitness challenges along the way. Trails are a mix of turf, gravel, grass, snow, and pavement depending on trail conditions, time of year, and location.
Lake Elmo Park Reserve hikes are 9 to 10 a.m. Thursdays. Meet at the Nordic Center. Lake Elmo Park Reserve hikes for 2017 are:
- Jan. 26;
- Feb. 16;
- March 9;
- March 23;
- April 6;
- April 20;
- May 4;
- May 18;
- June 1;
- June 15;
- June 29;
- July 13;
- July 27;
- Aug. 10;
- Aug. 24;
- Sept. 7;
- Sept. 21;
- Oct. 3 (a Tuesday Night Hike 6-7 p.m.);
- Oct. 5;
- Oct. 17 (a Tuesday Night Hike 6-7 p.m.);
- Oct. 19;
- Nov. 2;
- Nov. 16;
- Nov. 30; and
- Dec. 7.
Free Tuesday Fitness Hikes will also be offered. These are hikes on Free Tuesdays, when entrance fees to Washington County Parks are waived, and take place at a variety of Washington County Parks. The Free Fitness Hikes schedule is:
- May 2 at Big Marine Park Reserve 6-7 p.m. Meet at the playground;
- June 6 at Pine Point Park 6-7 p.m. Meet at the entrance kiosk;
- July 4 at Washington County Historic Courthouse 6-7 p.m. Meet on the front stairs; and
- Aug. 1 at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park 6-7 p.m. Meet at the hilltop pavilion.
The Washington County Historic Courthouse invites everyone to experience a guided, 60-minute Historic Stairs Fitness Hike through downtown Stillwater. Hikes include a warm-up and fitness challenges along the way, with a little history mixed throughout. Hikes traverse uneven and steep historic staircases, paved trail, and sidewalks. Wear athletic footwear and dress for the weather. These hikes are free, but a $10 recommended donation for each person for each hike goes to benefit the Historic Courthouse Restoration Fund.

These programs are free with a Washington County Parks vehicle permit ($7/day or $30/annual, with the exception of the Free Tuesday hikes and the History Hikes.
