Propane tanks don't belong in the trash

Do not throw propane tanks in the trash. Because gas cylinders and tanks contain a flammable compressed gas, they can explode and cause injury to solid waste workers if thrown in the trash. Although a tank may seem empty, a small amount of explosive gas remains even when it no longer supports a flame.

Propane tanks and cylinders are accepted from residents free-of-charge at the Environmental Center.

Recycle better: Plastic bags and wrap

Do not put plastic bags, wrap, or film in your curbside recycling cart. Plastic bags and wrap can get stuck around equipment and cause major delays and maintenance issues at recycling facilities.

Clean and dry plastic bags and wrap can be brought to the Environmental Center or a participating drop-off location for recycling. Items accepted include:

  • Grocery bags
  • Produce bags
  • Bread bags
  • Food storage bags
  • Cereal box liners
  • Case wrap
  • Packaging
  • Deflated air pillows
