The appointments are: * John Burcaw, who was appointed to a partial term as the Workforce Training Institution Representative, on the board. The term will expire June 30, 2023. * Eric Riedel, who was appointed to a partial term as the Post-Secondary Education Representative on the board. The term will expire June 30, 2022. * Jordan Fry, who was appointed to a second term as the Union Representative on the board. The term will expire Dec. 31, 2024. Contact: Jennifer Ochocki, Coordinator to the County Administrator, 651-430-6010 County Board adds land to include in Grey Cloud Island Regional Park The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of land March 15 that will be added to a future Grey Cloud Island Regional Park. The land, which is almost four acres, is at 11500 Grey Cloud Trail South. The sale was initiated by the property owner who advised the county of their interest in selling the property. An appraisal was completed and reviewed by the County Board and the board determined that the property is appropriate for inclusion into Grey Cloud Island Regional Park. The purchase price is $482,400 and will be funded by 25% Land and Water Legacy Program funds, and 75% by the Metropolitan Council. Contact: Sharon Price, Right-of-Way Specialist, 651-430-4391 County will sell fuel to Oak Park Heights’ law enforcement through state contract Washington County will sell fuel to the City of Oak Park Heights for use in law enforcement vehicles through the county’s state contract, after the County Board approved an agreement with the city March 15. The Washington County Sheriff's Office has a contract with the state for the Fixed Fuel Program for participants in the metropolitan area. The city needs to buy 87 octane gasoline to operate its squad cars and SUVs for law enforcement. The Sheriff's Office will provide up to 750 gallons of gasoline a month to the City of Oak Park Heights for $2.57 per gallon, plus applicable taxes. Any gallons after the designated amount per month will be charged the same amount charged to Washington County by Mansfield Oil. The contract runs from Feb. 1 through Jan. 31, 2023. Contact: Sheriff Dan Starry, 651-430-7601 Sheriff’s Office receives grant to manage emergencies The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will receive $113,080 from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety to cover personnel costs for the Washington County Emergency Operations Center staff for 2021. The County Board accepted the grant March 15. The Emergency Management Performance Grant provides financial assistance for the administration of local emergency management programs which meet state and federal requirements. It requires a 100% match from the county. Contact: Sheriff Dan Starry, 651-430-7601 Valley Paving will be doing pavement preservation on Olinda Trail Valley Paving will perform a pavement improvement project on Olinda Trail in May Township and Scandia this summer, after the Washington County Board of Commissioners approved a $2.19 million contract with the company March 15. The project will include the removal and replacement of all the pavement, drainage improvements, new signs and striping, culverts, and guardrail repair along the roadway, which is also known as County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 3. The project is from CSAH 4 to Old Marine Trail, or three miles long. The project will be funded with highway state aid and proceeds from the wheelage tax.
