Washington County public facing services are suspended due to COVID-19. eRecording and recording of paper documents received via U.S. mail continues to be available. Call 651-430-6175 between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday with questions.

Functions


County Recorder, by statute, is also the Registrar of Titles under the Torrens or registered land system. The Registrar of Titles along with the Examiner of Titles must examine documents presented to determine they meet the legal requirements for transfer.

Responsibilities


The primary responsibilities of the County Recorder's Office are to accept real estate documents for filing and maintain a permanent repository of recorded documents for real property in Washington County including:
  • Contracts for deeds
  • Deeds
  • Mortgages
  • Probate documents
  • Various others
