Updates on the New COVID-19 Vaccine as of Sept. 11, 2023
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the updated COVID vaccine. The current bivalent COVID vaccine is now no longer authorized for use. Shipment of the updated vaccine may take a couple of weeks after the recommendations are approved by the ACIP. Check back for updates on when Washington County Public Health has the new vaccine available.
Also, note that Washington County Public Health will only be able to give the updated vaccine to those who meet the eligibility criteria listed under the “Other Vaccines” tab.
Important Information
- Parent or guardian consent is required for COVID-19 vaccination for people younger than 18.
- If you have questions about whether a booster dose is appropriate for you, please contact your primary care provider. Additional information is also available for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Vaccines are available through the Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MnVFC) and Un-and Underinsured Adult Vaccine (UUAV) Programs. Only people who meet eligibility guidelines can receive vaccines through Washington County Public Health.
Who is eligible?
- Children (18 years of age and younger):
- who do not have health insurance.
- or are on a Minnesota Health Care Program such as MA, MinnesotaCare, or PMAP.
- or who are American Indian or Alaskan Native.
- or who have health insurance that does not cover vaccines.
- Adults (19 and older):
- who do not have health insurance or their insurance does not cover certain vaccines.
- and must be residents of Minnesota to be eligible.
There is a $15 administration fee for each immunization, but no eligible person will be turned away regardless of ability to pay the cost.
