Planning & Land Stewardship


The Central Greenway Regional Trail will eventually connect three regional parks: Cottage Grove Ravine, Lake Elmo Park, and Big Marine Park Reserve. Washington County is undergoing a planning process to determine the trail's route.
The master plan of the South Segment of the future Central Greenway Regional Trail (from Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park to Interstate 94) was approved by the Metropolitan Council on Sept. 27, 2017. To view, see Central Greenway Regional Trail - South Segment: Master Plan Update

The Lake Elmo Segment of the future Central Greenway Regional Trail will kick off this winter. Stay tuned for updates on the project and how you can get involved!

Land Stewardship

The Natural Resource Coordinator oversees and implements land stewardship activities throughout the 4,100 acre park system.
Below is information on a list of current grants and projects. 

Outdoor Heritage Fund Grant 
Washington County received a $430,000 grant from the Outdoor Heritage Fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature and recommended by the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council (LSOHC) to enhance and restore habitat at:
  • Lake Elmo Park Reserve, 141 acres of oak forest, wetland 
  • Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park, 53 acres of oak forest  
  • St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, 55 acres of oak and mesic forest
