Background
The Hardwood Creek Regional Trail is a 12 mile multiuse trail located in northern Washington County stretching through Forest Lake and Hugo, from the Ramsey County to the Chisago County lines. It will one day link the Bruce Vento Regional Trail in Ramsey County and the Sunrise Prairie Regional Trail in Chisago County.
Washington County is leading a feasibility study to complete a missing trail connection of the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail from Fenway Blvd and 130th St N to 120th St N in the City of Hugo (PDF).
This is the first step of a longer process. It will allow the county to pursue funding for future implementation. The county does not have a specific year identified for construction at this time.
Project Goals
This study will address the long term pedestrian/bicyclist transportation, environmental, utility, right-of-way, and drainage challenges within this proposed trail corridor.
Master Plan Vision
The Feasibility Study builds off of the vision set in the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail master plan (2013) (PDF).
An alignment is identified in the master plan to provide a route to get around a part of the corridor where rail use will remain active. This feasibility study seeks to develop a preliminary design for the alignment of this challenging segment.
Public Engagement
Washington County is looking to share the proposed preliminary design trail plans with the community as the feasibility study moves forward.
