A snowmaking feasibility study for a 2.5 km ski trail and sledding hill at Lake Elmo Park Reserve was completed in February of 2019. The feasibility study identified the cost of building the system at $12.1 million dollars, which includes $3 million for a treatment system to remove Per- and Polyfluoralkyl Substances (PFAS) from the water source.
The report findings were presented to the County Board at a workshop on February 12, 2019. The board likes the idea of making snow and the increased use it would generate. However the price tag is not something we can fit into the current budget. We will work on next steps, which include evaluating grants or other funding source that would help reduce the cost.
