Modern Campground Improvements
Park users that want to enjoy the park for more than a day may reserve one of the 80 campsites located in the modern campground. At the campground, park staff is spending a lot of time and money maintaining the old electrical system in the campground. The county hires an electrician every spring to complete a review of the entire system and repair old or failing equipment. While this spring review helps prevent issues during the camping season, the county still has a number of outlets and breakers go out during the busy summer, and have to complete emergency repairs over many weekends. This on-going maintenance is costly and does not provide a high level of service to park users. This proposed project will replace the entire electrical system within the campground. While we are replacing this electrical system, we also review adding 50 amp hook-ups to accommodate larger camper and RV units that require more electricity to run, as we currently have only 20 or 30 amp hook-ups.
Out of our 80 campsites, only four campsites that have water hook-ups. This project will also review adding additional water hook-ups to the campground, as well as adding additional water spigots.
Moving on to the playground with the campground. Playground equipment have a design life of about 15 years, while most of our playgrounds within our park system are near or have exceeded this design life. The existing playground within the modern campground is 17 years old. The county has done a fine job maintaining this playground, but safety standards have changed since this playground was installed and it is now a good time to replace this playground, as we are already planning to make improvements within the campground.
