School Recycling

A 2010 study conducted by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency found that over 78% of school waste is recyclable or compostable.

Minnesota schools are required by state statute to have recycling programs. Implementing waste management best practices can also help schools save money on disposal costs and create positive waste reduction and recycling behaviors for students and staff.

Washington County Assistance

Washington County has funding, free container labels, and technical support available to help schools start or improve recycling programs.

County assistance helps schools achieve waste management goals outlined in the Schools Waste Reduction and Recycling Best Practices Continuum. The continuum was created in the fall of 2018 with input from an advisory group consisting of Ramsey and Washington County school representatives.
