What is PREA? 

PREA stand for Prison Rape Elimination Act, which was signed into law in 2003. The Washington County Sheriff's Office-Jail has a zero tolerance policy with regard to sexual abuse and sexual harassment within this facility. The Washington County Sheriff's Office will take appropriate measures to protect all inmates from sexual abuse and sexual harassment, and will promptly and thoroughly investigate all allegations of sexual abuse and sexual harassment. 

How do I report sexual abuse or harassment behind bars?

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will investigate any criminal allegations. Any person may report any allegation on behalf of any inmate in the Washington County Jail at 651-439-9381 or to Canvas Health Abuse Response services at 651-777-1117. 

PREA Audit Results

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act, The Washington County Jail is required to undergo a PREA audit every 3 years. We are required to post a copy of the Final Report once the audit is completed.
