Who must be studied?

In compliance with MN Statute 245C.03, all of the following must have background studies:
  • License applicants
  • Household members age 13 and over. A person is considered a household member when he or she lives in the adult foster home more than 30 consecutive calendar days in any 12 month period and who is not a resident.
  • Current or prospective employees or contractors of the applicant who will have direct contact with residents (whether they are paid or not)
  • Volunteers or student volunteers who will have direct contact with residents if the contact is not under the continuous, direct supervision of the licensed provider or other caregiver who has had a completed study
  • An individual age 10-12 living in the household where the licensed services will be provided when the commissioner has reasonable cause
  • An individual who, without providing direct contact services at a licensed program, may have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults receiving services from a program, when the commissioner has reasonable cause
