Red Rock Corridor
The Red Rock Corridor runs 30 miles from Hastings to the Union Depot in St. Paul and on to Minneapolis. The Corridor, which generally runs along Trunk Highway 61, Interstate 94 and the Canadian Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail lines, has regional, statewide and national significance as a primary transportation route for automobile, truck, freight and passenger rail travel.
The Red Rock Corridor is the same corridor currently used by the Amtrak Empire Builder and is the designated Midwest High Speed Rail Corridor connecting the Twin Cities to Chicago. Investments in high speed rail may be leveraged to provide benefits to multiple improvement projects in this corridor.
Activities related to the Red Rock Corridor studies are guided by the Red Rock Corridor Commission (RRCC), of which Washington County is a member. The RRCC is a joint powers board of local elected officials from the counties and communities along the Corridor, brought together by the common pursuit of improving transportation options in the Red Rock Corridor. The Red Rock Corridor Commission meetings are usually held on the last Thursday of every month at 3:30 p.m. at Cottage Grove City Hall, 7516 80th Street South.
The Red Rock Corridor website at http://www.redrockrail.org/ is the primary source for project background information, the latest news about the corridor and announcements for upcoming meetings and events.
