The Minnesota Family Planning & STD hotline was established in 1978. It serves the entire state of Minnesota and the call is free. The hotline provides reliable and helpful information about birth control methods, sexually transmitted diseases and where to find a low-cost clinic near you. You will speak with a trained Referral Specialist one on one in complete confidence.
The hotline hours are:
- Monday through Friday – 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Saturday – 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

- Birth Control
- The hotline can tell you about methods of birth control that are currently available and help you to choose the method that's best for you. The hotline can also tell you where to go to get the birth control method you prefer.
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)
- The hotline can give you information that can help prevent infections like:
- Herpes
- Genital Warts
- Chlamydia
- HIV/AIDS
- Gonorrhea
- They can also tell you what to do if you think you may have a STD and answer questions you may have if you have already been diagnosed with an STD*. *(STDs are also known as STIs -sexually transmitted infections)
- Clinic Referrals
- The hotline can refer you to a low-cost clinic in your area that provides:
- Birth control services
- Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases
- Pregnancy testing
- Pap smears and pelvic exams
