Credentials of Ordination

Ministers of any religious denomination, before they are authorized to solemnize a marriage, shall file a copy of their credentials of license or ordination with the local registrar of a county in this state, who shall record the same and give a certificate thereof. The place where the credentials are recorded shall be endorsed upon and recorded with each certificate of marriage granted by a minister.

In Person

Bring a copy of your credentials for filing to the Property Records and Taxpayer Services Department, which is located on the first floor of the Washington County Government Center. The filing fee is $5. You will complete a Certificate Of Filing. Once we have filed your Credential, a sealed copy will be given to you.

Requests by Mail

1. Print out a Certificate Of Filing and complete it.

2. Send us a copy of your credential of ordination or license attached to the Original Certificate Of Filing.

3. Include the $5 filing fee. Enclose a check or money order made payable to: Washington County.

5. Once we have filed your Credential, a sealed copy will be returned to you.
