As a service to the citizens of Washington County, the following property tax deadlines are being publicized as a reminder of the dates and penalties for not meeting the prescribed deadlines.
The first half Homestead and Non-Homestead Real Property Taxes are due on May 15. This is the postmark date as per State law. Payments are accepted, until 5 p.m., at the Property Records and Taxpayer Services Department located in the Washington County Government Center at 14949 62nd Street North in Stillwater. Payments are also accepted at any of the three Washington County Services Centers until 5 p.m. Second-half payments are due on Oct. 15.
A penalty of 2 percent for Homestead and 4 percent for Non-Homestead Property must be added to first half tax balances being paid after the May 15 deadline. Additional penalties are applied to unpaid taxes on the 1st of each month, beginning with June 1, until paid. Similar penalties are applied to second half tax balances paid after the Oct. 15 deadline. If both the first and the second installments are unpaid on Oct. 16, the penalty is 5 percent on Homestead and 8 percent on Non-Homestead. Again, the penalty increases on the 1st of each month, beginning with Nov. 1. The penalty on Mobile Home and Personal Property Tax payments made after the deadline is 8 percent.
Taxpayers receive only one tax statement per year. If a property owner refinances or discontinues paying taxes with their mortgage payments, it the taxpayer's responsibility to contact the County Office of Taxpayer Services Division, at 651-430-6175 to determine any tax balance remaining.
The Taxpayer Services Division can also answer any questions you may have about deadlines or tax payments.
