Big Marine Park Reserve Master Plan
The Master Plan for Big Marine Park Reserve was updated in 2009-2010. The Master Plan establishes a long-term vision for the park reserve. The plan does not outline a timeline for development; rather it provides a long-term vision for what could be developed at the park in the future.
Planning for the updated Master Plan began in 2009 with meetings with local officials, nearby residents, and the general public. A series of three public meetings were held in the community and provided substantial quality information that was used for the updated master plan. The Master Plan was approved by the County Board and Metropolitan Council in the summer of 2010.
Since Big Marine is a park reserve, the Master Plan outlines a protective approach to developing the park in a manner that does not significantly impair the existing natural systems operating in the area. The rolling, forested hills and landscape dotted with species-rich wetlands will be protected under this Master Plan. Some of the primary recreation elements of the Master Plan include group and family campgrounds, several miles of paved and soft-surface trails, and picnic facilities.
