Tours of the Historic Courthouse and Old Jail

Visit the Historic Courthouse and take a self-guided tour to learn about the history of the St. Croix Valley from territorial days to the present. See the courthouse video, old county jail, exhibit, artifacts, courtroom, Soldiers and Sailors' Monument, Civil War howitzer and more.

Self-guided tours are free.

140 Years at the Courthouse - New Life for an Old Building

The Washington County Historic Courthouse served as the center of Washington County government from 1870-1975 when the county moved to the new government center. This exhibits showcases artifacts, photos and information about the building when it was used for county business and also highlights the efforts to save the building, restore it and give it new life as an historic site and private rental venue. See the courthouse mice, Gus and Sig, artifacts and photos from buildng restoration and a variety of information, artifacts and photos about the many fundraising activities that helped create a new future for the old building. You will also learn about the current use of the building which is now part of the county parks division.

Bring the family to learn about the rich history of Washington County and beyond as you visit with representatives from various historic sites and organizations. Old-fashioned games, historic artifacts and photos, refreshments, activities and a mock trial make this a great way to spend time with your family.

Scouts, home-schoolers, 4-H and other groups will find this day beneficial for fulfilling curricula and badge requirements.

The Boy and Girls Scouts are celebrating their 100th anniversary in America. In conjunction with the Northstar Museum of Scouting and the Washington County Historical Society, the courthouse will present an exhibit on the history of scouting. An exhibit grand opening will be Sunday, May 9, from noon - 3 p.m.


Kickoff to Lumberjack Days and Amateur Talent Show

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 4:30 p.m. to dusk


Join family and friends at this old-fashioned ice cream social on the courthouse grounds. Twenty-five cent root beer floats, penny candy, children's activities, a petting zoo, food and more make for a perfect evening of family fun. The Amateur Talent Show begins at 6 p.m. and features a variety of family-friendly acts.

Auditions for the Talent Show are scheduled for July 6, 7 and 12. Audition sign-up begins at 6 pm and auditions at 7 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. July 6 and 12 are open auditions.
