"Learn at the Library" mini classes for adults

Where:  Oakdale Branch Library
When?  Second Wednesday of each month, October 2011 through May 2012
What time?  Classes meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
How much?  Free

Oct. 12 — Come Spin with Us
The Weavers Guild of Minnesota will visit Oakdale Library to demonstrate various types of spinning yarns and explain their uses. They will bring drop spindles, spinning wheels, and many fibers to try. If you have a wheel, bring it along!

Nov. 9 — Calligraphy
Lynne Michaels will give a brief overview of the basic strokes and techniques to make your lettering shine for the holidays. Bring any calligraphy materials you may own. Time to practice and lots of encouragement.

Dec. 14 — Art Quilts
Local author and artist Maxine Rosenthal (author of three “One Block Wonder” books) will be on hand to talk about quilting, especially art quilts. She will bring many examples, and hopes for a lively discussion.

Jan. 11 — Tole Decorative Painting
You don't have to be Scandinavian to enjoy this class in Decorative Painting presented by Sharon Scott. Sharon will discuss various forms of decorative painting, and each participant will be able to try their hand at Tole Painting.

Feb. 8 — Weaving
The Weavers Guild is back — this time to demonstrate weaving in its many forms. Come see how this timeless activity might fit into your life.

March 14 — Coins
The Liberty Coin Club will be here to share their knowledge and expertise about coins and coin collecting. After a brief presentation, they will entertain with a question and answer session.

April 11 — Come Fly With Us
The local radio-controlled airplane club, Sodbusters, will talk about their favorite pastime. Come see what flying a miniature airplane is all about. (Newcomers always welcome to join the group.)

May 9 — Which Came First, the Friends or the Beads?
Members of the Upper Midwest Bead Society will dazzle and amaze you with presentations and demonstrations. Here’s your chance to work with large beads, small beads, and wire to create some bling. This group hopes to inspire creativity and make new friends.
