Juvenile Fiction
For children in grades 2-6, books divided into sections or chapters; each chapter has a title or number. Chapter books for beginning readers have short chapters, paragraphs and pictures. Chapter books for older readers have longer chapters and paragraphs, with very few pictures.
Books for younger readers:
Arthur and the nerves of steal by Stephen Krensky Arthur's friend Buster wants a new "Cyber Toy" so badly, he drops it into Arthur's backpack at the drugstore. Feeling guilty, he confesses to Arthur and the boys try and return the popular toy before anyone finds out.

Horrible Harry and the dragon war by Suzy Kline Harry and his friend Song Lee have a "falling out" when they disagree over a dragon assignment. Another classmate finds information that proves that they are both right: dragons are fearsome in Western traditions and gentle in Eastern traditions.
Junie B., first grader : cheater pants by Barbara Park In this beginning chapter book, Junie B. deals with the issue of cheating, after getting caught copying a homework assignment. Humorous plot and comical drawings. One of several in this popular Junie B. Jones series.

Season of the sandstorms by Mary Pope Osborne This is the most recent in the popular Magic Tree House series. Jack and Annie travel back in time to a desert in the Middle East. They meet a Bedouin tribe and learn about the way they live.
Space case by Carolyn Keene Nancy and her friends are excited about a contest at McCormick's Grocery store. The kid who guesses the number of jelly beans in a jar wins a trip to space camp! When the jelly-bean jar disappears, Nancy uses her detective skills to solve another mystery.

Books for older readers

Encyclopedia Brown: boy detective by Donald Sobol Fifth-grader "Encyclopedia" Leroy Brown solve ten mysteries and, by putting the solutions in the back of the book, challenges the reader to also solve the mysteries.
