Information for book sale customers who use scanners

Washington County Library welcomes customers who use scanners to book sales. They are among our best customers.

Customers use electronic scanners to scan barcodes and identify titles that may be of particular value. Since customers with scanners generally seek to resell items for profit, the Library charges a scanner fee to access book sale merchandise. Customers who use scanners pay a $20 fee per day for scanning book sale merchandise and receive a receipt as proof of purchase. Customers who have paid the fee retain the receipt to prove payment during the time they are at the book sale.

The Library also enforces rules of behavior for all book sale customers. Customers may not scan, sort or pile merchandise in a way that impedes the movement of other customers or disturbs the order of merchandise. Customers may not access unopened boxes used to replenish inventory during the sales. Violation of rules may result in the customer being refused sales, escorted out of the book sale and denied access to the book sale for the remainder of the day.
