The amount of trash, recycling and hazardous waste generated impacts the quality of our air, water and land and ultimately our health. Waste management planning is necessary to research, develop and implement environmentally sound management options to minimize not only long-term negative effects to our environment, but financial burdens to taxpayers as well.
Minnesota Statutes 115.46 and 473.803 require counties to develop waste management master plans. The Washington County Waste Management Master Plan is a twenty-year plan that contains specific methods with measurable outcomes to address short and long-term waste management issues. The Master Plan is developed in conjunction with the Regional Waste Management Plan and the Metropolitan Solid Waste Policy Management Policy Plan.
The Master Plan was developed in 2004 with input from the Washington County Waste Management Planning Group, which included representatives from the waste industry, cities and townships, residents and from the Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance.
