Public Health Nuisances
What is a public health nuisance?
Any activity or failure to act that adversely affects the public health. Any source of contagion, filth or disease. Some examples include clandestine labs, human or animal feces, food debris, accumulation of household trash, sewage, abandoned well, animal carcasses and insect presence.
How do I report a garbage house or other public health nuisance?
Call the department's main phone number at 651-430-6655. Indicate the community the nuisance is located in, and you will be transferred to the inspector assigned to that community. The environmental health specialist will ask you questions to determine the nature of the problem, who may be impacted by it, and the urgency of response. Not all "messy" homes present a public health risk. Likewise, others are serious problems which require a timely response from the department. Your assistance is appreciated!
How do I make a Rental Property complaint?
If the complaint is regarding potential health nuisance conditions such as garbage, insects, animal wastes, sewage back-ups or mold, contact us at 651-430-6655.
If the complaint is regarding building or electrical issues contact your community housing or building inspector. Please be aware Washington County does not have a housing code and not all communities have housing codes.
