How do I get a license for a restaurant in Washington County?
Call the department's main phone number at 651-430-6655. Indicate the community the establishment is or will be located in, and you will be transferred to the inspector assigned to that community.
Existing Establishments
If purchasing an EXISTING food service establishment, a compliance inspection must be conducted prior to the closing date of the sale. Food service establishment licenses are not transferable to person or place. A new license must be obtained before you begin operation of the restaurant.

Washington County does not regulate grocery stores, convenience stores, bakeries, meat processors and candy manufacturers. Contact the Minnesota Department of Agriculture at 651-201-6000 for further information on these types of businesses.
Do I need a license to sell or give away food at a special event?
Most likely, yes. An individual, group or company cannot sell or give away food in Washington County without first obtaining a license. For a special event, apply for a
