Economic Support

Diversionary Work Program (DWP) - when most families first apply for cash assistance they will participate in the Diversionary Work Program.  This 4 month program helps parents go immediately to work. 

Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) – this program is Minnesota’s cash and food assistance programs for families who need assistance.

General Assistance (GA) - GA provides monthly cash grants for vulnerable persons whose income and resources are less than program limits.

Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) -  This program is a state funded program that provides monthly cash supplement to people who are aged, blind or disabled and who receive federal supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) – RCA coordinates services to help refugees make the transition to life in the United States.  Services include resettlement and placement, cash and medical assistance, and employment and social services.

Medical Assistance (MA) - MA is a program that assists children under the age of 21, parents or caretakers of dependent children, pregnant women, people who are 65 or older and the people who are disabled.

Other Health Care Programs – There are a number of health care programs available for specific groups of people, including persons in nursing homes, participating in at-home care services, and others.

Food Support  – The food support program helps low income people and families with their food needs.

Child Care Assistance  - This program can help make quality child care affordable for income-eligible families.

Emergency Assistance (EA) – This program primarily helps low income individuals experiencing a housing or utility crisis.
