Enforcing a Child Support Order

How does Washington County collect child support?

Most obligor's pay their child support obligation as ordered.  However, when an obligor is not paying child support, the child support office is able to use certain enforcement remedies to encourage parents to pay.  Specific criteria must be met before the enforcement action can be taken.

Income Withholding
Tax Intercepts
Driver's License Suspension
Contempt of Court Action
Passport Denial
Credit Bureau Reporting
Financial Institution Data Match
Lottery Winning Intercept
Student Grant Hold
Enforcing Orders Involving Other States or Countries

Automatic income withholding may help prevent other enforcement actions from becoming necessary.  The purpose of strong enforcement activities is not to penalize obligors, but to stress the importance of paying support.
