County Continues Construction on Stillwater Government Center Project

Project will prepare the county government center to serve a growing county through the year 2025

In preparation for serving a county which is expected to grow by 140,000 residents in the next 25 years, Washington County has opened a major expansion to its County Government Center in Stillwater. Remodeling of the Government Center will provide:
• new County Board room
• permanent entrance to County Courthouse
• return of Property Records and Taxpayer services
• customer service counter
• improved access to Law Library and Self Service Center

The project will add 200,000 square feet of building space to the complex, including a five-story courts building and a three-story addition to the Law Enforcement Center.

Public Benefits:

• Ten new courtrooms and space for six more courtrooms as future needs dictate;
• More court-related conference space;
• Separate juvenile/family court room and conference suite;
• An improved Law Library and Court Self-Help Center for residents;
• Safer and more efficient transportation of prisoners through new arraignment facilities;
• An improved 911 Call Center;
• Buildings which are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
• Other features include new offices for the County Attorney, Accounting and Finance and Information Technology.

Schedule

Groundbreaking: October 2007
Steel structure begins going up: January 2008
Revised Law Enforcement Center opens: Early spring 2009
County Courthouse Opens for use: August 31, 2009
Start Remodeling of North Wing of Government Center: August 2009
Start Remodeling of South Wing of the Government Center: August 2009
Anticipated Completion: Late 2011
