Terms

Maximum terms for advisory board committee members are set at three, three-year terms, or four, two-year terms unless provided otherwise by state statute or County Board action.

An appointment to finish out an unexpired term of a committee member does not count toward the term limits. After an interval of one year, when a former committee member is off the committee, the former committee member is again eligible to serve.

The following committees, commissions, and boards are affected by membership term limits:

  • Board of Adjustment and Appeals - three, three-year terms
  • Audit Advisory Committee - four, two-year terms
  • Community Corrections Advisory Board - four, two-year terms
  • Community Development Block Grant Citizens Advisory Committee - two, three-year terms
  • Community Services Advisory Committee - two, three-year terms
  • Historic Courthouse Advisory Council - four, two-year terms
  • Housing and Redevelopment Authority - two, three-year terms
  • Library Board - two, three-year terms
  • Mental Health Advisory Council - two, three-year terms
  • Minnesota Extension Committee - three, three-year terms
  • Parks and Open Space Commission - three, three-year terms
  • Planning Advisory Commission - three, three-year terms
  • Public Health Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee - three, two-year terms
  • Veterans Rest Camp Association Board - two, three-year terms
  • Workforce Investment Board

Citizens have numerous possibilities to join one of the county's many advisory boards that relate to their interests and areas of expertise.
