Citizen Participation

Washington County offers numerous opportunities for residents to get involved in their community and local government. Citizen involvement is an important and integral link in Washington County’s government system.  Today, combined committee membership alone totals more than 230 residents.

In addition to the opportunities listed below, citizens have numerous possibilities to join one of the county’s many advisory committees, boards, and commissions that relate to their particular interests and areas of expertise. All such opportunities are listed here on the left under "Advisory Boards" along with information concerning current vacancies, terms of appointment, and remuneration.

Guardian ad Litem Program

•  Application

Volunteer to become a guardian ad litem. A guardian ad litem is a court-appointed advocate for children involved in court proceedings. Every year, many children end up in court. They have committed no crime, but have been abused and neglected—the forgotten victims of family crisis. Volunteer to be a child’s voice in court proceedings and help these children have a chance to live in safe, permanent homes. Click here for more information or contact the Washington County Guardian ad Litem Program at 651-430-6301 or:
