The Washington County Board of Commissioners set a budget and levy for 2010 designed to maintain core county services at a time when residents are increasing the demand for those services, and to minimize the tax impact for taxpayers.

County Board sets preliminary property tax levy for 2010

The Washington County Board of Commissioners set a preliminary maximum levy for 2010 for the county’s net levy, and a levy for the Regional Rail Authority, at its meeting Sept. 15.

The board must set a final levy in December. The levy set Sept. 15 may be reduced before it is voted on in its final form, but it may not be increased.

County officials embark on budgeting process

The Washington County Board of Commissioners reviewed an overview of the county’s 2010 budget during a workshop Sept. 1, which recommends operating expenditures that would decrease 1.4 percent from 2009, with a net property tax levy that will increase by less than 1 percent, due to decreased state aid.
