Drop BoxUnused Medication Drop-Off Box
Requests for an option for the safe disposal of unused prescription medications in Washington County were increasing as there was a concern that unused medication was being abused, especially by young people.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Washington County Department of Public Health developed a plan and installed a permanent drop-off box in the Law Enforcement Center - Sheriff's Office Lobby.

Washington County residents are able to dispose of unused and expired medications at the year-round free drop-off box.

15015 62nd Street North
Stillwater, MN 55082
Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Procedure for Dropping Off Medications
When dropping off medications, they should be left in their original containers. Personal information may be blocked out with a marker. If medications are no longer in their original container, they should be placed in a clear plastic bag with the name of the medication written on the bag. Medications accepted include prescription, over-the-counter, and pet medications.

Needles, syringes, lancets, or thermometers will not be accepted. Bring these items to the Washington County Environmental Center at:
4039 Cottage Grove Drive
Woodbury, MN 55129

The Washington County Sheriff's Office will secure the medications and take them to a waste-to-energy facility that is licensed to burn this type of waste. The service is paid for through the use of the County Environmental Charge, which is placed on garbage collection services in the county.
