Washington County Historic Courthouse
About the Historic Courthouse

The Washington County Historic Courthouse welcomes local, national, and international visitors for meetings, exhibits, tours, performances, ceremonies, public events and receptions. The building stands high on the bluffs, overlooking downtown Stillwater and the St. Croix River Valley. The Greek Revival buildng features Italianate influences and is visible from throughout the valley.

The Historic Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is an important cultural, economic and historical resource for the St. Croix Valley. Charles Nelson, former state architect noted that "The Historic Courthouse is considered one of the best examples of adaptive re-use of an historic site in the Midwest."


Visiting the Courthouse

The Historic Courthouse is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Potential rental clients can tour the buildng on Saturdays at 9 a.m., and reservations are requested. Contact staff to make an appointment to visit at a different time.

History tours are given throughout the day on Monday through Friday and at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Organized groups need an appointment for tours.


Holidays, After Hours, and Weekends

The Historic Courthouse is closed on holidays. After hours and weekends are only available by appointment.
