The Human Resources Department assists all departments in the attraction and retention of qualified employees. The department recruits in accordance with equal employment opportunity principles and serves as the central point for employee relations, labor relations, and risk management services. In addition, this department manages a variety of employee programs such as training and development, benefits, safety programs, workers' compensation and the Employee Recognition Program. Areas of responsibility include: compensation, classification, employee records management, personnel policy administration, and human resources technical/professional support for all County departments.

The Courthouse, Government Center, and Law Enforcement Center are housed in the scenic St. Croix River Valley in Stillwater with satellite offices and libraries located in a number of communities throughout the county. Washington County employs over 1,000 full-and part-time employees with our core businesses being public safety, health and human services, environmental protection, planning, public assistance, transportation and physical development, libraries, taxation, license centers, and district court.

Washington County has nine bargaining groups that represent the employee population. All regular county employees are members of Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) - www.mnpera.org - which provides retirement program to all vested employees.
